not THAT kind of pursuit, but you get the idea

A male friend recently recounted to me his story of pursuing a woman he loved. Tears sprang to my eyes when he talked about how he did his best to make his intentions known to her, only for his efforts to be in vain.

He squinted at me, and asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m highly empathic,” I replied, tone objective but eyes teary.

It wasn’t so much his sob story that got to me. It was reminiscent of how the God of the universe, vast in His glory and majesty, pursued me when I was relentlessly running away from Him. I was ignoring His advances and shrugging off His affection — all because He didn’t give me what I wanted.

Oh, the audacity of me.

It’s easy to be sucked into the next good thing when all God wants us to do is stick close and walk with Him.
