The nature of digital is that it matures as it moves forward.
- Dennis Perez

I’ve been thinking about this statement since I heard it last night at a digital marketing talk. The speaker described digital as being in a state of “perpetual beta”, constantly evolving and never finishing.

It spoke to me on a much deeper level.

God’s Word promises that we go from glory to glory. None of us can never really say that we’ve “arrived” or that we’ve hit the mark (and really, what “marks” can we ever hit in light of Christianity, anyway?). Admittedly, it’s easy for me to get complacent and refuse to grow.

Then it hit me. Growth isn’t dependent on me.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
- Philippians 1:6

It was God who began the good work in me, it’s He who’s continuing to make it happen, and it’s He who will bring it to fruition. My role is to align my heart to His and respond accordingly.

So until it’s completion time, I’ll be in a state of perpetual beta.

In a sense we are all in perpetual beta. The most dangerous people are the ones who think they know it all and who stop learning. We are not yet the finished article and never will be. So we should open ourselves to learning, to input and to feedback — especially if it is critical.
